Effective Date: September 1, 2025 Welcome to CafeScraper (referred to as “we”, “the Platform”, or “our Services”).
We are committed to building an ecosystem that connects developers with data consumers:
- Developers can upload reviewed scripts (scrapers) and earn revenue;
- Users (data consumers) can run these scripts to obtain the data they need;
- We provide a stable and efficient cloud-based execution environment and management services.
1. Scope and Role Definition
To clarify data protection responsibilities, we distinguish the following roles depending on the service scenario:- We act as a “Data Controller”
When processing information directly related to your personal account and platform usage (such as registration details, billing information, and payout accounts), we act as the data controller. This Privacy Policy primarily governs our data processing activities in this role. - We act as a “Data Processor”
When you run scripts on the platform to collect data from third-party websites, you (the script operator) determine and control the scraping targets, parameters, and resulting data. In this scenario, CafeScraper acts solely as a technical infrastructure provider and instruction executor (data processor).
You are responsible for ensuring that your data collection activities and use of collected data comply with the CafeScraper Terms of Service, applicable laws and regulations, and the rules of target websites (such as robots.txt). We do not control, and are not responsible for, the content or use of such data.
2. What Information Do We Collect?
To provide, maintain, and improve our Services, and to ensure proper transactions and settlements, we collect the following types of information.2.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Account and Identity Information: Email address, username, and password hash provided during registration. If you choose to log in via third-party accounts (such as GitHub or Google), we receive basic profile information authorized by those platforms (e.g., public ID, avatar).
- Transaction and Financial Information:
- For script users: To process service payments, we use third-party payment processors (such as Stripe or PayPal). We do not store full credit card numbers or other sensitive payment details.
- For script developers: To pay commissions, we require valid payout account information (e.g., bank account, PayPal account, cryptocurrency wallet address) and necessary identity verification details (such as name and tax identification number) to meet tax and compliance obligations.
- Public Profile and Content: Information you voluntarily provide in your profile, such as bio, skill tags, social media links, as well as scripts, documentation, and configuration data you upload to the platform.
- Communication Records: Information generated when you communicate with us or other users via customer support, email, or community forums.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you access the website or use our Services, we may automatically collect:- Device and Log Information: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device identifiers, access dates and timestamps, requested URLs, and referring pages.
- Service Usage Data: Script start events, execution duration, consumed computing resources and network traffic, success or failure status, API call frequency, and feature usage preferences. This data is used for billing, performance monitoring, and platform optimization.
- Cookies and Similar Technologies: We use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to maintain login sessions, remember preferences, analyze traffic patterns, and evaluate marketing effectiveness. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings; however, disabling certain essential cookies may affect website functionality.
3. How We Use Your Information
We process your information for the following legitimate purposes:- Service Provision and Contract Performance: Creating and managing accounts, identity verification, executing scripts you specify, providing storage and computing resources, and processing payments and commission settlements.
- Platform Operation and Improvement: Analyzing usage trends to optimize server performance, improve user experience, develop new features, and provide personalized script recommendations based on usage history.
- Security, Risk Control, and Compliance: Detecting and preventing fraud and abuse (e.g., malicious scripts, DDoS attacks), protecting platform and user security, and fulfilling legal obligations such as financial recordkeeping and tax reporting.
- Communication and Support: Sending service-related notifications (such as script run completion/failure alerts, billing notices, and significant updates to terms or policies). With your consent, we may also send product updates or promotional communications (you may unsubscribe at any time).
- Legal Obligations: Responding to lawful requests from law enforcement or government authorities.
4. How We Share and Disclose Information
We share your information only when necessary, and only with the following categories of recipients, subject to contractual confidentiality and data protection obligations:- Essential Third-Party Service Providers: Partners that provide infrastructure, payment processing, email delivery, analytics, customer support, and security services (e.g., cloud service providers, payment gateways). They process data only according to our instructions.
- Public Information in the Script Marketplace: If you are a developer, your public username, profile, script listings, descriptions, and performance metrics (such as run counts and ratings) may be visible to other users to promote trust and transactions.
- Legal Requirements or Protection of Rights: When disclosure is necessary to comply with laws, regulations, subpoenas, or court orders, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of CafeScraper, our users, or the public (e.g., investigating fraud or illegal activities).

- Data Retention: We retain your personal information while your account remains active. After account deletion, we retain necessary data only as required to fulfill contractual obligations, resolve disputes, comply with legal requirements (such as tax record retention), or meet legitimate business needs, after which data will be anonymized or securely deleted.
